Replant for the long game
Goal: put trees back on cleared parcels and keep your forest from running out.
- Watch the Forest gauge. It shows the share of the claim still carrying timber, with a note: “standing” at 50% or more, “thinning: replant” from 25% to 49%, and “nearly cut out” below.
- Click a cleared parcel with no building or field on it.
- In the side panel, find “Replant with a species suited to
” and the row of species buttons below it. Each shows value and growth speed. - Click a species name. It costs 100 bd ft. A nursery (see open a business) makes it free.
- Check the parcel panel. It now shows seedlings. The planting date resets and the stage clock starts at zero.
The list depends on the ground:
| Ground | Species offered |
|---|---|
| River bottom (rows 7 and 8) | Redcedar, hemlock, grand fir, cottonwood |
| Bench ground (most of the claim) | White pine, Douglas-fir, larch, grand fir, lodgepole |
| Steep ridge | Ponderosa, larch, Douglas-fir, lodgepole |
Growth counts in real hours. Mature timber arrives after about 20 hours divided by the species growth rate, so lodgepole (1.4) matures in about 14 hours, larch (1.15) in 17, Douglas-fir (1.0) in 20, white pine (0.85) in 23.5 and redcedar (0.7) in 29. Old growth is twice that. The value per log rises the other way: white pine 135, redcedar 120, larch 105, Douglas-fir 100, lodgepole 62.
Replanting twice also completes the deed goal “Replant 2 parcels”.
What can go wrong
Section titled “What can go wrong”A parcel with a building or a field cannot be replanted. Do your replanting before you build on parcels you want as forest.
Meadow parcels cannot be planted.
White pine does not appear on river bottom parcels. Pick bench ground if you want it.
Replanted ground counts for the Best forester board, three points a plot. See read the leaderboards.
